On June 13, 2023, the study day on the topic "The Sahel - a post-colonial crisis region: political and religious challenges" took place as part of the series "Theology in the Sign of the Times" at the University of Salzburg.
Experts, including Helga Dickow from the ABI, examined the current religious, social, and political developments in the Sahel, the consequences of which (such as migration, Russia's influence, etc.) also affect Europe. In the afternoon, three workshops were offered on the topics of "France's Africa Policy," "Islam and Christianity in the Sahel," and "The Situation of Women in the Sahel."
Once again, this study afternoon made it clear how much the developments on the African continent also impact life and politics in Europe. An intensive engagement with the political and economic reality of Africa and a greater interest in our neighboring continent are urgently needed.
