Public Lecture on the Digitalization of Land Administration in Ghana

Lecture Title

The Africa Centre for Transregional Research (ACT) is hosting a public lecture on “What and whose tenure security does digitalization of land administration in Ghana serve?” by Dr. Peter Narh from the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana.

Digital processes for land administration have increasingly become integral to natural resources administration and governance in Ghana. Digitalization is expected to enhance efficiency in land transactions and tenure security to facilitate investments and growth outcomes for the economy. Yet, it is evident that digitalization processes and outcomes are mediated by traditional land ownership and tenure systems. In this lecture, Dr. Narh will engage with how these mediating factors affect the digitalization of land administration in Ghana, highlighting outcomes for different groups of people.

Dr. Peter Narh is an Environmental Social Scientist researching African land and natural resources conservation and governance. Currently, his research focusses on socio economy/environment formations and conservation in Ghana and Kenya. He holds a PhD in Development Studies (Environmental Governance option) from the University of Bayreuth in Germany.

Prof. Dr. Michael Pregernig, ACT member and Chair of Sustainability Governance at the Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Freiburg, is organizing the lecture in cooperation with the ACT. Dr. Peter Narh is visiting the ACT in Freiburg via MIASA
