The GenZ-led revolution in Bangladesh
ABI staff member Anas Ansar and Eva Gutensohn from südnordfunk spoke with Azaher Uddín, an activist, about the young generation in Bangladesh.
In the summer of 2024, a revolution took place in Bangladesh that is unique in the country's history: student-led protests managed to bring people of all sections of the population together to take to the streets and fight for democracy and human rights in the country. President Sheikh Hasina fled into exile in India on August 5 after 15 years of authoritarian rule. The path was and is now clear for a more just future. But the price was high, especially for the younger generation: more than 300 people died, including many students, most of them in targeted police shootings.
The possibilities for a new beginning and what the GenZ generation now expects from a new government can be listened to in the program on the Radio Dreyeckland website.
