ABI staff member Benjamin Schütze speaks to the Freiburg-based station Radio Dreyeckland about German policy on the Middle East, international law, freedom of expression and academic freedom.
Benjamin Schütze appeared as a guest on Radio Dreyeckland to share his views on the implications of political developments in Germany and globally, as well as the social polarisation surrounding the debate on the war in Gaza. During the interview, Schütze highlights the contradictions between German 'Staatsraison' and international law, and discusses the public debate in Germany and German research on the Middle East since 7 October 2023. Other topics discussed include specific restrictions on academic freedom and the possibility of a nuanced approach to combating anti-Semitism.
The broadcast is available on the Radio Dreyeckland website (in German).
In the past, Benjamin Schütze has repeatedly spoken out on Germany’s policy towards Israel and on restrictions on academic freedom in this context, most recently in an opinion piece in the taz-newspaper (in German).
