Conference Week of the Rising Star Academy in Freiburg

Between 16 and 20 March, four Fellows of the Freiburg Rising Stars Cohort of 2025/26 under the supervision of ABI and ACT director Andreas Mehler, as well as ACT members Gregor Dobler and Tim Zajontz visited the ACT and the ABI: 
 

• Amanda Bisong (European University Institute) specializes in migration governance and interlinkages between trade and migration in Africa, while
• David Tei-Mensah Adjartey (University of Ghana) investigates the impact of large-scale human engineering projects on locals populations and environments.
• Leah Lazer (University of Basel) and Abidou Rahim Lema Mohamed (University of Montreal) both research interconnections between global structural transformations and local dynamics across Africa and are associated with the chair of International Relations at the University of Freiburg.
• They were joined during the visit by Dr Prince Gumah, currently fellow at FRIAS.

ABI’s Tim Glawion has collaborated with Abidou Rahim Lema Mohamed as part of his MIASA Global School project, Amanda Bisong has worked with Franzisca Zanker on various publications and joint work on mobility norms in Africa. The ABI looks forward to welcoming Amanda Bisong back to the ABI/ACT later this year, where she will be working on a database on bilateral labour agreements in Africa. She will be part of the forced migration cluster at ABI.

The Freiburg Rising Star Academy connects highly qualified international early career researchers with scientists in Freiburg from a variety of disciplines. Each Rising Star joins a host Principal Investigator (PI) of the University of Freiburg, bringing curiosity, creativity, and diverse expertise to the table. Together, these teams are exchanging ideas, exploring new perspectives, and shaping the future of research across disciplines.
