Tens of thousands of migrants are leaving South Africa out of fear of xenophobic violence. They don't feel safe anymore since self-appointed "community police" have been attacking people from Malawi, Zimbabwe, and other countries, or looting their shops and homes. The government is increasingly pressured by the anti-migrant movement and is now promising to take action against undocumented migrants, even though the South African economy depends on migrant labor in many sectors.
