Guest at ABI: Libyan women's rights activist Hala Bugaighis

On 14th October 2019 Hala Bugaighis, a Libyan women's rights activist, lawyer and director of the think tank “jusoor" visited ABI together with Sylvia Rombach and Annika Buttke from the NGO AMICA e. V. Since five years Hala Bugaighis is active as a women's rights activist. She co-founded the "Think Tank and Do Tank jusoor", which works on the publication of scientific articles and the collection of data on women in Libya. Bugaghis reported on her work in Libya, outlined changes in society affecting women since the fall of the former ruler Gaddafi and described a lack of discussion on women issues especially since the Second Civil War. Additionally, racism in Libyan society, the influence of tribes on politics and the role of NGOs were part of the informal exchange. These information are useful for the scholars at ABI, because they are (regionally) connected to their research.
