Tomislav Pušić conducted a guest research visit at ABI in collaboration with Erkan Tümkaya from 8 April to 3 May 2026.
During his stay at ABI, Tomislav Pušić and ABI associate Erkan Tümkaya collaborated closely on a joint article examining opacity as a form of migration infrastructure, meaning not the absence of state legibility but an active infrastructure co-produced by smuggling networks, migrant counter-surveillance, territorial conditions, and humanitarian systems.
This period was highly productive and led to significant progress on the manuscript. In addition to the research collaboration, Pušić delivered a guest lecture on European migration policy, focusing on Ukraine, at the University of Freiburg as part of Erkan Tümkaya's seminar.
Pušić says, he greatly benefited from participating in the "Patterns of (Forced) Migration" cluster:
"The intellectually stimulating environment enabled me to expand my knowledge, engage with ongoing research at ABI, and connect with colleagues working on related topics. The collegial atmosphere contributed to making the visit especially rewarding."
Following his stay at ABI, the collaboration with Erkan Tümkaya and the ABI will continue throughout common conference presentations and publications. This visit was supported by funding from the PhD School of Social Science at Aalborg University and the CORRIDORS project.
