"Generation Z is rebelling"

In an interview with Jungle.World, ABI staff member Teresa Jopson shares her expertise on uprisings and movements in Asia that mainly consist of young people.

In numerous countries, mass movements characterized by the young age of their participants are overthrowing governments or mobilizing against them in demonstrations and protests – as was the case most recently in Nepal last September, where a movement dominated by young people overthrew the government of Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli: "Deep-rooted anger and resentment came to the surface. It was directed against the entire leadership, corrupt politicians, nepotism, and the extravagant lifestyle of the most powerful families. [...] It is only natural that they are rebelling," says Jopson. In the interview, she goes on to shed light on the causes, similarities, and differences between the protests in Nepal, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Myanmar, and other countries.
