Advisory project: Afrika im Blick

Afrika im Blick

The importance of Africa as a partner of Baden-Wuerttemberg is growing. Therefore, Baden-Wuerttembergs' state government launched an initiative called "Afrika im Blick" (en: Focus on Africa) in 2018. This initiative aims to highlight ongoing cooperations with actors in Africa, initiate processes in Baden-Wuerttemberg, and identify opportunities for expanding deeper cooperation with Africa.

The Arnold-Bergstraesser-Institute Freiburg, in cooperation with the State Ministy of Baden-Wuerttemberg, presented the study "Afrika im Blick" in 2019. It was introduced to the state’s cabinet by State Minister Theresa Schopper and publicly presented at numerous events.

In 2025, the Arnold-Berstraesser-Institute conducted a follow-up study titled "Afrika im Blick 2025". This study emphasizes the urgent need for deeper cooperation with the African continent, particularly in light of the changing global landscape. In addition to reviewing cooperation from 2020 to 2025, the study delves deeper into the fields of economy, science and education, development cooperation, as well as the diaspora and qualified migrant workers. The study was presented in March 2026 to State Secretaries Hoogvliet (State Ministry) and Rapp (Ministry of Economic Affairs).
