Elite Transformations in Southeast Asia

The central objective of this initial project phase (funded by the Science Support Center, University of Freiburg) is to develop and refine a grant application for the German Research Foundation (DFG) that focuses on elite constellations and socio-economic outcomes in the context of Emerging Asia (with particular reference to Indonesia, the Philippines and China). The envisioned research project builds on an interdisciplinary cooperation that incorporates economic  (Schulze), political (Rüland & von Lübke) and historical (Trappel) vantage points. Methodologically, the analysis will draw on in-depth case studies and quantitative data.
