During this conference, Daniella Niteka, communication scientist at the University of Burundi, gave an interview for südnordfunk.
The long-standing crisis in Burundi has been accompanied by a crisis in press freedom. The country is only slowly recovering from the consequences of the repression against the media, which reached a peak almost ten years ago. Journalists were forced to flee and media outlets were set on fire. Ahead of the elections scheduled for 2025, media experts are now seeking to strengthen a law on the right to access information and investigative journalism. Daniella Niteka gives her assessment of the situation on südnordfunk.
