Delegation of the University of Namibia visits ABI

The Arnold Bergstraesser Institute has a long and intensive relationship with Namibia, so the visit was also a reunion among old colleagues and friends. The Namibian political scientists also met representatives of the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies and colleagues from the Universities of Basel, Constance and Tübingen. On 13th November they were invited by the Basler Afrika Bibliographien to discuss the forthcoming elections in Namibia with Swiss experts at a round table. Two evenings earlier, Andre du Pisani and Reinhart Kößler presented the interwoven relationship between Germany and Namibia to an interested audience in the context of the Freiburger Afrikagespräche, paying particular attention to German colonial rule in Namibia (1884-1915). In several discussions, possible forms and topics of cooperation were identified for the future, including the focus on African knowledge production in a partnership yet to be formed.
