Two new entries have been published in the Virtual Encyclopaedia "Rewriting Peace and Conflict" of the Postcolonial Hierarchies network.

Rabea Khan discusses the concept of terrorism in her article Terrorism – the irredeemability of a concept

"‘Terrorism’ continues to dominate headlines, it stirs a wide range of emotions in the general public and the fear of it informs numerous domestic and foreign policies worldwide, many of which have cost countless and many more innocent lives than the acts of violence that were labelled ‘terrorism’ in the first place. But what exactly is ‘terrorism’, and should we care to locate or identify an accurate definition for it?"

Gabriel Garroum Pla contributed to the encyclopaedia with an article on Urbicide:

"This contribution examines the concept of urbicide – the deliberate use of urban destruction and the violent reorganisation of city spaces with the aim of denying, annihilating or homogenising place. Through a postcolonial lens, the analysis engages with urbicide as a phenomenon with specific historical conditions of emergence. This approach focuses on how colonial discourses and practices enable modern warfare to justify and conduct operations based on the deliberate destruction of cities. By interrogating these dynamics, the article underscores the socio-political stakes of urbicide and its role in reinforcing hierarchies of domination and exclusion."

These and more entries are available on the Virtual Encyclopaedia website.
